Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-50) and the California GOP Congressional Delegation have called on the Biden Administration to immediately act to prevent expected disastrous aviation fuel shortages that could leave California and the Western United States without the critical use of full aerial capabilities to mitigate and overcome regional wildfires. In June, the B-29/B-24 Squadron leader Archie Taylor announced that the CAF’s B-24 Diamond Lil "was ready to roll and ride." Crediting the dedicated maintenance team and several donors and sponsors that su

On Tuesday, Blue Origin successfully completed New Shepard’s first human flight on the 52nd anniversary of the first moon landing, with four private citizens onboard. The crew included Jeff Bezos, Mark Bezos, Wally Funk and Oliver Daemen, who all officially became astronauts when they passed the 62+ mile high Kármán Line, the internationally recognized boundary of space (and significantly higher than the Virgin Galactic flight). Epic Is Back To Building Airplanes As Fast As They Can

The Epic E1000 has a hard time doing anything but go places... fast. Still; Epic Aircraft’s factory operation had to slow down a bit, like everyone else, to accommodate the issues associated with the pandemic... but used that down time to study their nascent production system and seek ways to improve upon it... thereby wasting little time when everyone else was at a standstill. Now, with airplanes ready to come out of the factory with a major avionics upgrade, the 1200HP turbo prop is ready to travel at altitudes as high as 34000 feet -- and in high style.

Also: MCAS Cherry Point Air Show, Dauntless Air, Astro Doug Hurley Retires, Epic E1000 GX

ANN had received an invite from Waco Aircraft to visit their new HQ in Battle Creek, MI, where they have made serious upgrades and improvements to what had always been a cool little airplane company. New facilities, upgraded capabilities and a very slick new FBO (with enough ramp space for a few Boeings) are but the tip of the iceberg as we toured the production facilities for the Waco YMF-5 classic radial engined biplane and the more conventionally powered Great Lakes 2T-1A-2  -- a favorite  for aerobatic trainers. One major addition to the mix is an in

ANN's Daily Aero-Term (07.22.21): Mountain Wave

Mountain Wave Mountain waves occur when air is being blown over a mountain range or even the ridge of a sharp bluff area. As the air hits the upwind side of the range, it starts to climb, thus creating what is generally a smooth updraft which turns into a turbulent downdraft as the air passes the crest of the ridge. Mountain waves can cause significant fluctuations in airspeed and altitude with or without associated turbulence.
