Hartzell Propeller has purchased the assets of Tanis Aircraft Products, who made their name in engine preheat systems for fixed and rotary wing aircraft, with facilities in Minnesota. The Tanis brand will become part of Hartzell Propeller’s heated products, which now includes systems for propeller de-ice, piston engine preheat, turbine engine preheat, helicopter preheat, battery, avionics, and cabin preheat. “The Hartzell family of companies, which is investing heavily in the future of general aviation, is broadening our offerings in heated products with this acquisition,” said Hartzell Propeller President JJ Frigge.

Electric Aircraft Set to Take Flight by 2026

United Airlines Ventures (UAV), along with Breakthrough Energy Ventures (BEV) and Mesa Airlines, has made an investment in electric aircraft startup Heart Aerospace. Heart Aerospace is developing the ES-19, a 19-seat electric aircraft that has the potential to fly customers up to 250 miles before the end of this decade. In addition to UAV's investment, United Airlines has conditionally agreed to purchase 100 ES-19 aircraft, once the aircraft meet United's safety, business and operating requirements. Mesa Airlines, United's key strategic partner in bringing electric aircraft into commercial service, has also agreed to add 100 ES-19 aircraft to its fleet, subject to similar requirements.

Textron's Cessna Citation Longitude has achieved certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), clearing the way for customer deliveries to begin in the region. “In the second half of last year we saw a substantial increase in super-midsize flight activity across Europe as individuals relied on these products as a transportation solution,” said Tom Perry, vice president of Sales, EMEA, Textron Aviation. “The introduction of the Longitude to the European market will fulfil the international travel needs of many of our customers, while providing them peace of mind and convenience for both their business and personal travel.”

Second-Quarter Deliveries Discussed, 787 Program Updated

Boeing announced major program deliveries across its commercial and defense operations for the second quarter of 2021. "We continue the work to deliver on our commitments to our commercial, defense, space and services customers, while positioning our business for a stable and strong recovery from the pandemic. In the second quarter, we made progress in safely returning the 737 MAX to service in more international markets and increasing the pace of 737 deliveries," the company said.

Sensor Mount Simplifies Installation

Southeast Aerospace has received Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) number SA01055DE for the installation of their sensor mount in the Cessna 206. Designed by Southeast Aerospace for the Cessna 206 aircraft, the sensor mount simplifies installation, which can be completed in less than one day with no changes or limitations to normal flight operations for payloads up to 70 lbs. The precision machined sensor mount allows for payloads such as the Wescam MX-10 or FLIR 380HDc EO/IR to mount on the left side of the aircraft.

Stopp(ed) To Let The Instructor Out So The Student Pilot Could Attempt Three Solo Take-Off And Landings

On June 24, 2021, about 1115 eastern daylight time, a Piper PA-28-161, N2143G, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Easton Maryland. The pilot was seriously injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. According to the student pilot, he conducted a preflight inspection before he and his instructor completed the engine run-up and takeoff roll with no anomalies noted. They stayed in the pattern conducting three takeoffs and landings before stopping to let the instructor out so the student pilot could attempt three solo take-off and landings.

AD 2021-13-19 Retains The Requirements Of AD 2014-11-02

The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2014-11-02 for Airbus Helicopters Model SA-365N, SA-365N1, AS-365N2, and AS 365 N3 helicopters. AD 2014-11-02 required repetitively inspecting frame number (No.) 9 for a crack. This AD was prompted by Airbus Helicopters developing a modification that provides an optional terminating action for the repetitive inspections required by AD 2014-11-02. This AD retains the requirements of AD 2014-11-02, provides an optional terminating action for the repetitive inspections, and reduces the applicability by excluding certain post-modified helicopters. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective
