FAA Releases Policy on Training in Experimental, Primary, and Limited Categories

Controversial Decisions Are Being Questioned By GA Community

The FAA has just released a yet-to-be-published policy addressing the issue of training for compensation or hire in Experimental, Primary, and Limited category aircraft. The policy follows up on a letter from the agency last month that asserted that, without exception, no compensated flight training can take place in these aircraft categories without an exemption or letter of deviation authority (LODA). The newly announced policy maintains that position while offering a short-term solution that allows these operations to continue.

DoT NPRM Will Require Airlines to Refund Some Fees to Consumers

Significantly Delayed Bags and Services Not Provided by the Airline Will Be Affected

DoT is publishing an NPRM that would require airlines to refund fees for checked bags that are significantly delayed and for ancillary services, such as advance seat selection and wi-fi, when consumers pay for them but they are not provided. “Consumers deserve to receive the services they pay for or to get their money back when they don’t. This proposed rule would require airlines to refund fees to passengers whose bags are significantly delayed or who don’t receive the services that they paid for.” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

AD: Safran Helicopter Engines, S.A.

AD 2021-13-03 Requires Repetitive Visual Inspections Of The Fuel Filter By-Pass Indicator Pop-Up

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Safran Helicopter Engines, S.A. (Safran Helicopter Engines) Arriel 2B, 2B1, 2C, 2C1, 2C2, 2S1 and 2S2 model turboshaft engines. This AD was prompted by reports of non-conforming fuel filter pre-blockage pressure switches. This AD requires repetitive visual inspections of the fuel filter by-pass indicator pop-up, a one-time operational test of the fuel filter pre-blockage pressure switch and, depending on the findings, replacement of the fuel filter pre-blockage pressure switch with a part eligible for installation. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these prod

Aero-News: Quote of the Day (07.10.21)

"When we considered the need to replace an aircraft in our fleet, the choice of the TBM was obvious.  Our passengers love the comfort of the cabin, and our pilots love the way they fly. The TBM's reliability has been nearly flawless, and the cost of operation is easily justified when compared to alternative means of travel. The HomeSafe emergency autoland system, which is in the new TBM 940, is a game changer; its added safety is unprecedented. After 49 years of flying, these birds still wow me." Source: Gordon Kramon, the Director of UNC Air Operations and a TBM pilot, explaining why UNC just added their third TBM to the fleet.
