The Event Makes A Comeback After 2020 Cancellation 

The US National Aerobatic Championships will take place Sunday, September 19-September 24. Over 100 pilots are expected to arrive at the Salina Regional Airport to compete. Salinas was selected as the event location after being selected from over 40 airports across the midwest. The 2020 championships were canceled, but they are back this year. “We hope this is the second of many visits to Salina,” said Doug Bartlett, contest director, of Naples, Florida. The event is organized by a volunteer team made up of members from the International Aerobatic Club, headquartered in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The RedTail Flight Academy celebrated the opening of its flight academy September 10th at New York Stewart International Airport. Honoring the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen, the RedTail Flight Academy will train seven aspiring Black aviators from inadequately serviced communities. To strengthen the foundation of the Academy, original documented Tuskegee Airmen Lieutenant Colonel Enoch Woodhouse will attend the opening to welcome the inaugural cadets, including three females and four males. The Wyoming Aviation Hall of Fame congratulates Bob Hawkins, who has been selected as its inductee for 2021. Hawkins has been operating many types of fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters across Wyoming and the West for more than 50 years. He excelled in specialized applications, including high-altitude mountain flying, heavy-lift hauling, firefighting, long line, surveying, and wildlife management. He was co-owner of Hawkins & Powers Aviation, Inc., in Greybull, from 1992-2005 and was general manager and director of operations of Sky Aviation, in Worland, from 2005-2018. He also flew with Bighorn Airways in Sheridan.

Pilot Decided She Would Be Unable To Make It Back To AJZ Due To The Loss Of Engine Power

On September 3, 2021, about 1200 mountain daylight time, a Cessna 182D airplane, N9114W, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident near Delta, Colorado. The pilot sustained no injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 skydiving flight. The airplane was operating as part of a commercial skydiving operation, Ultimate Skydiving Adventures, LLC, based at the Blake Field Airport (AJZ), Delta, Colorado. AD 2021-18-09 Prompted By A Report That An Operator Found Solid Rivets With Missing Heads

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all The Boeing Company Model 777 airplanes. This AD was prompted by a report that an operator found solid rivets with missing heads at the left buttock line 25 on the sloping pressure deck web. This AD requires doing a detailed inspection of the left- and right-side sloping pressure deck at certain stations for any damaged solid rivets, and applicable on-condition actions. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective October 22, 2021.

AD 2021-19-20 Prompted By A Report Of Defects On The Piston Hole Associated With The O2 Saver Feature

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Dassault Aviation Model FALCON 7X airplanes. This AD was prompted by a report of defects on the piston hole associated with the O2 saver feature that may prevent efficient deactivation of the O2 saver function. This AD requires amending the existing airplane flight manual (AFM) to incorporate a check and an operating limitation regarding the O2 saver function, as specified in a European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) AD, which is incorporated by reference.
