Certificated Awardees Surpass 400

The EAA Ray Aviation Scholarship program continues to facilitate the actualization of young peoples’ dreams of flight. To date, four-hundred recipients of subject scholarship have completed flight-training. The program is funded by the Ray Foundation, managed by the EAA, and administered through the EAA Chapter network. Scholarships are awarded to young people aspiring to earn Private Pilot Certification.

Flight Window Opens 05 October 2023

Virgin Galactic, the California-based spaceflight subsidiary of Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group, announced on 14 September that the flight window for Galactic-04—the company’s fifth spaceflight in five-months and ninth to date—will open on 05 October 2023. Tennessee Private Pilot Awarded $2,500

Matt Everett, the grandson of a U.S. Air Force veteran, grew up surrounded by the sights, sounds, science, sport, and romance of aviation. His appreciation for aeronautical endeavor was fostered during childhood visits to airports with his grandmother and watching aircraft arrive and depart Runway 23 at Knoxville, Tennessee’s McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS). Now an adult, a marketing professional, and a certificated Private Pilot, Mr. Everett has earned the distinction of being the latest recipient of Sporty’s $2,500 Pilot Training+ Scholarship.

The Mechanic Said That The Pilot Told Him That He Had A “Weather Window”

On August 19, 2023, about 1254 central daylight time, a Piper J5A, N35417, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Iola, Wisconsin. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight. The pilot flew the airplane to Central County Airport, Iola (68C), Wisconsin, from Escanaba, Michigan, so that the annual inspection of the airplane could be performed at 68C by a mechanic. The mechanic stated that before the accident, the pilot had driven twice and flown once to 68C.

Aero Linx: The Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia  The Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia is widely recognised as Australia's premier organisation promoting the preservation, restoration and flying of old aeroplanes. “Old Aeroplanes” includes Antique, Classic and Contemporary aeroplanes, both Civil and Military from the 1920s through to the 1960s. The AAAA was formed in 1974 by a group of owners and enthusiasts to fill a need for an association to represent the interests of owners of old aeroplanes at a time where aircraft were being exported or forced out of the air by heavy Government charges and regulation.

Mach Technique Describes a control technique used by air traffic control whereby turbojet aircraft operating successively along suitable routes are cleared to maintain appropriate MACH numbers for a relevant portion of the en route phase of flight. The principle objective is to achieve improved utilization of the airspace and to ensure that separation between successive aircraft does not decrease below the established minima.
