O2 Aero Acquisitions, the parent company of Aerox Aviation Oxygen Systems, has acquired Hudson, Ohio-based Fluid Power, Inc, a manufacturer of military-type oxygen systems and components for the aviation industry. The acquisition broadens Aerox’s line of aviation oxygen systems for military and specialty applications and affords the company’s global customer base expanded access to Aerox’s products and services.

Carrier Completes Updates to Radio Altimeters

Delta Air Lines has announced the completion of its move to 5-G 'immune' radio altimeters throughout the entire fleet, rendering it ready for a wave of high-speed, high-performance cellular networking. Delta has managed to outfit about 190 of its previously unequipped A220 aircraft, allowing it to stand ready despite an industry beset with supply delays. Delta may be early to the party, with other carriers possibly fighting over whatever radar altimetry units they can find.

The Vertical Flight Society (VFS) has named the winners of its 40th Annual Student Design Competition. The team representing the University of Maryland took first place in the Graduate category. The Georgia Institute of Technology/US Military Academy prevailed in the Undergraduate category. A Loss Of Engine Power Due To Loss Of Engine Oil Pressure

Analysis: During a cross-country flight at cruise altitude, the pilot reported a loss of engine oil pressure and loss of engine power to air traffic control and subsequently performed a forced landing to a field. The airplane impacted the ground and the wreckage was partially consumed by a post impact fire. Examination of the wreckage revealed oil staining on a portion of the horizontal stabilizer and broken pieces of the windscreen that were found at the site. Having just received a pilot's license a few months prior, a thirty-seven year old pilot and his older brother set off for Faribault, Minnesota in a Cherokee 180 to bring his brother's daughter home from school for the holiday. A long chain of errors in judgement lead to fuel exhaustion and an off airport landing. The landing rollout through a fence row totaled the aircraft, but spared all on board. This moment caused the pilot to ponder in great depth if he should simply be content with staying on the ground.

Precision Approach Radar Radar equipment in some ATC facilities operated by the FAA and/or the military services at joint-use civil/military locations and separate military installations to detect and display azimuth, elevation, and range of aircraft on the final approach course to a runway. This equipment may be used to monitor certain non-radar approaches, but is primarily used to conduct a precision instrument approach (PAR) wherein the controller issues guidance instructions to the pilot based on the aircraft's position in relation to the final approach course (azimuth), the glidepath (elevation), and the distance (range) from the touchdown point on the runway as displayed on the radar scope.

Pilot's Discretion When used in conjunction with altitude assignments, means that ATC has offered the pilot the option of starting climb or descent whenever he/she wishes and conducting the climb or descent at any rate he/she wishes. He/she may temporarily level off at any intermediate altitude. However, once he/she has vacated an altitude, he/she may not return to that altitude.
