The Canadian Owners and Pilots Association has disclosed that the Cedars airport of Montreal will be closed on May 22, 2022. Aircraft owners at the property had been aware of issues with the lease held by the airport and flight school operator, Laurentide Aviation, with its renewal this spring up in the air. Development of the airport land has always been an increasing temptation for the property owner, and with values in the area skyrocketing over the past 2 years, the owner feels it's time to shut things down.

Alaska Airlines Launches Pilot Academy

Facing Shortage of Aviators, Airlines Get Inventive

Alaska Airlines and its regional partner, Horizon Air, have launched an effort to establish a flight school of their own in the Redmond, Oregon area: the Ascend Pilot Academy. The new program is launched with Hillsboro Aero Academy as an effort to guarantee a steady pipeline of incoming professional pilots as the looming shortage of ATP-qualified personnel approaches. The academy will register and train up to 250 students per year, with support for cadets ranging from low-interest financial aid, a $25,000 stipend to cover their commercial pilot license, mentorship, and the requisite conditional job offer at Horizon Air that promises a chance to fly with Alaska as their logbook is padded out.

BendixKing Touch Screen PFD Installation Available for Light Robinson Aircraft

The Robinson R44 helicopter has been featured at the Heli-Expo 2022 Helicopter Institute booth, sporting a newly released glass panel setup. The new flight deck is the group effort of BendixKing in Phoenix, Arizona, Becker Avionics in Miramar Florida, and AvPanels of Fort Worth, Texas. The result has a BendixKing AeroVue Touch front and center as the primary flight display, sporting 10.1" of high-resolution, configurable, multifunction screen area. The first batch of R44s with the layout will soon head to Embry Riddle's Prescott, Arizona campus for use as trainer aircraft.

EAA, Dynamic Aviation Join Hands To Promote Youth Programs

AeroEducate, unveiled at AirVenture 2021, has found its footing after nearly a year in action, bringing the aerospace industry into the classroom to secure the next generation of aviators. Released and curated by the EAA, AeroEducate is designed to provide educators of children and teens, students 5 to 18 with the tools necessary to foment an interest in aviation. The program uses interactive, educational, and age-appropriate pathways into aerospace, available free and clear for use by teachers everywhere. Dynamic aviation's Nextgen Aviators program is a perfect foil to the program, allowing students to enroll in AeroEducate and receive badging credit for participation.

NTSB Prelim: Cessna 310

Last Data Point Showed The Airplane At 1,100 Ft MSL About 1,150 Ft From The Accident Site

On February 1, 2022, about 1006 eastern standard time, a Cessna 310R airplane, N622QT, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Danville, Virginia. The commercial pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated by Sol Aerial Surveys as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 aerial surveying flight. The pilot had previously flown aerial surveying in the same make and model of the accident airplane. The accident flight was his first solo aerial surveying flight for the company following several observation flights with the company’s owner.
