General Atomics has announced its newest addition to its portfolio drones, the Gambit. Described as an "Autonomous Collaborative Platform (ACP)”,  the drone will be a jet-powered, autonomous recon wingman for manned aircraft, working in tandem as a lower cost, low-risk option to send on scouting tasks that would be too dangerous for larger aircraft. Using a blend of artificial intelligence and autonomous systems, the Gambit will "enable pilots to see deeper into hostile airspace, detect threats first, and provide time and space for critical decisions and actions."

The International Aerobatic Club announced some somber news to members this morning, when they recognized the death of one of their own, taken too soon during a short, everyday cross country flight. Marianne Fox took to aerobatic flight quickly and eagerly, according to club mates in Oregon. Beginning her logbook in 2019, she soon earned her private pilot license and began flying in the Primary aerobatic category at her home port of Corvallis, Oregon in 2020.

Russia halted its rocket supply to the US, and, despite many believing that production stateside is both plentiful and capable enough to mitigate the problem, a suitable replacement for the RD-181 engines supplied by the country is not yet ready for launch. Russia has decided to rescind any technical support from the RD-181 it sells to the US, a problem for the strategic space launch schedule, since the engine is the only one in use for the Orbital ATK Antares rocket.

Another industry body has seen off the outgoing Senator James Inhofe, thanking him for his continual service to the aviation industry throughout his career. Timothy Obitts, president of the National Air Transportation Association, is grateful for the work done by the Inhofe office, who completed a number of important projects and changes that have affected nearly everyone in the system. After almost 30 years of service in the U.S. Congress, he announced that he will retire, ending his term prematurely in January 2023.

CEO Barry Knuttila has taken on an additional role as one of the on-camera instructors for King Schools. He also owns a Beechcraft Debonair, and regularly flies the King Schools Falcon 10 with John and Martha.

Alleges Maintenance Company Completed Work Outside Approved Premises

The FAA has alleged that Airtronics of Watkins, Colorado, conducted unapproved maintenance operations on 20 or so aircraft over a year span, proposing a fine of $175,000. The agency believes that Airtronics, from the period between August 2019 and November 2020 conducted a series of maintenance operations at a facility not approved under the company's issued operations specifications.

On January 8, 2022, about 1530 eastern standard time, a Cessna 172G airplane, N3964L, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Youngstown, Ohio. The private pilot and two passengers sustained no injury. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot reported the purpose of the flight was to verify the proper operation of a newly installed automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast system in the airplane.
