Private Companies Can Play Key Role In Tracking Asteroids

Only 10 Percent Of Potential 'City Destroyer' Asteroids Have Been Identified

The House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology held the second of a two-part series of hearings Wednesday looking at the tracking, characterization and mitigation of Near Earth Objects (NEOs).  The hearing focused on the most viable near-term initiatives within the private sector and the international coordination needed to identify and characterize potentially hazardous asteroids and meteors.

NASA, USAF Seek Next Generation Space Processor Program

Working To Anticipate Advances In Computer Technology Through 2030

NASA and the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory in Albuquerque, NM, are requesting research and development proposals to define the type of spacecraft computing needed for future missions. Through a broad agency announcement, the Air Force Next Generation Space Processor Analysis Program is seeking two to four companies to perform a yearlong evaluation of advanced space based applications that would use spaceflight processors for the 2020-2030 time frame.

Boeing X-48C Blended Wing Body Research Aircraft Completes Flight Testing

Thirty Flights Conducted To Validate Aircraft's Aerodynamic Characteristics

The Boeing X-48C research aircraft flew for the 30th and final time April 9, marking the successful completion of an eight-month flight-test program to explore and further validate the aerodynamic characteristics of the Blended Wing Body design concept. All 30 flights were conducted at NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center.
