Amelia Earhart's namesake charity, the Atchison Amelia Earhart Foundation, marked the 88th anniversary of her flight with the announcement of a museum bearing her name. The Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum in Atchison, Kansas will be an interactive, STEM-focused educational tour of her life, opening next April. US Congressman Sam Graves has been selected to serve as Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. The selection puts one of aviation's own in charge of one of the biggest movers and shakers of the transportation industry, with oversight of a multitude of operational considerations throughout the country. Russia Plans Replacement Soyuz Capsule

Meteoroid Strike Damages Spacecraft, Ending Reentry Plans

Russia's space agency plans to launch a replacement Soyuz capsule to the International Space Station next month, replacing the damaged module in orbit. The move comes after a micrometeoroid strike that perforated a portion of the MS-22 spacecraft, leading to a visible coolant leak from the outside. The capsule could no longer regulate interior temperatures, projected to creep north of 100º during reentry. With such damage, a trip back to Earth aboard the Soyuz is impossible, stranding the personnel in orbit.

Amelia Earhart Museum Announced in Pioneer's Hometown

January 11 Marks 88th Anniversary of Amelia Earhart's Hawaii to California Trip

Aeronautical pioneer Amelia Earhart made her infamous Hawaiian journey 88 years ago, making herself a cool $10,000 in prize money and earning a spot in aviation history. The journey from the mainland US to the islands had come to be seen as fraught with danger after amounting 10 fatalities between a series of attempts. At the time, Hawaiian promoters and sugar barons were eagerly awaiting the forecasted influx of tourist money that air travel would surely bring, leading to their offer of some serious prize money for 1935 - more than $215,000 in today's scrip.

Hydroplane Cleans Up at CES 2023

Woman-Led Company Nabs Honors at Women and Drones for H2 Fuel Cell Development

Hydroplane left CES 2023 with a trio of awards in tow, cleaning up at the Women in Emerging Aviation Technologies Award Ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada. The company's work on developing its modular, 270-hp hydrogen fuel cell powerplant for small aircraft brought no shortage of eyes on their work, with its obvious use in replacing current-gen piston aircraft engines and VTOL air mobility projects. Should all go well, Hydroplane anticipates flights to begin sometime later this year.
