Aero-Management 101: Vision, Mission & Core Values

Be Specific About Your Business For Employee And Customer Buy-In

By David Juwel

When you started your company did you have a specific vision about what you wanted your company to accomplish? Because if you don’t know where you’re going, how will you know when you get there? Your initial vision is probably what motivated you to start the business in the first place. If your vision is altruistic, it’ll be easier to get employees to support it, and customers to buy into it.

Example:

“Our vision is to provide the aviation industry with a concierge service in the most efficient way possible thus creating a high rate of customer satisfaction.”

If you did establish a vision, did you break that vision down into a mission statement? Because if you can’t show your employees exactly what you want to do, how will they know to do it? And how will your prospective customers come on board with you if they can’t identify with what you want to provide in their life?

Example:

“We will use our well established resources and make them available to our customers 24/7, thus allowing our customers freedom of time, more convenience, and completion of their needs in a timely and cost effective manner.”

Along with the vision and mission statement, did you also establish the core values of your company? Anyone can boast of their high value, but not everyone has the core values needed to accomplish their boast. For instance, integrity is a core value. How often have we found companies that were long on promise and short on integrity? Do you think your customers want you to have integrity? How will your prospective customers and your employees know if you don’t publicly establish it and make it a priority within your company?

Example:

“To pragmatically accomplish our vision and mission statements, we are committed to establishing a corporate culture with the following characteristics as our priority values: Integrity, Team Spirit, Customer Service, Constantly Expanding Services, and Geographical Freedom.”

I recommend that you establish your vision, mission and core value statements and post them in-house and publicly. Continually remind both your employees and customers about them. You’ll find it to be a perpetual psychological, marketing, and employee performance tool.

Wishing you blue skies and greater profitability.
