US Airways Worker Killed In DCA Mishap

Woman Operating Belt Loader Pinned Against Plane

A US Airways fleet service agent was killed at Reagan National Airport early Tuesday when the belt loader she was operating somehow pinned her against an aircraft, crushing her.

Authorities had not released the woman's name as of late Tuesday morning. A spokesman for US Airways said she was operating the belt loader at about 0630, some 30-minutes before Flight 1821 was to leave DCA for Chicago. Somehow, in the process of loading bags onto the Embraer RJ, the woman became trapped between the machinery and the aircraft.

The NTSB is investigating the mishap. The flight was canceled -- passengers were transferred to another aircraft.
