NTSB Prelim: Glasair II FT

Maneuvered Briefly Southeast Of Monee And Became Established On A West Course Before Entering A Descent

On June 24, 2022, about 1518 central daylight time, a Glasair II FT airplane, N350CP, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Monee, Illinois. The pilot was seriously injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.

Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast (ADS-B) data revealed the flight departed Lansing Municipal Airport (IGQ) at 1505. The pilot proceeded southwest and climbed to an altitude of 3,000 ft mean sea level (msl). He maneuvered briefly southeast of Monee and became established on a west course before entering a descent. The final data point was recorded at 1517:55 with an associated altitude of 2,300 ft msl. The terrain elevation in the vicinity of the accident site was about 715  ft.

Postaccident airframe and engine examinations are planned once the airplane is recovered from the accident site.
