Request Has 31 Co-Signers In The Senate
U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK), a member of the Senate General
Aviation Caucus and certified flight instructor with more than
10,000 flight hours, sent a letter Thursday to Chairman John
Rockefeller (D-WV) and Ranking Member Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX)
of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee
requesting a hearing and markup of S. 1335, the Pilot’s Bill
of Rights Act. Inhofe introduced this legislation in July and
currently has 33 cosponsors, 13 of which are members of the
committee. Inhofe was joined by 31 Senate colleagues in his request
for a hearing.
Senator Inhofe
“The Pilot’s Bill of Rights is desperately needed to
enhance the relationship between the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) and members of the general aviation
community,” said Inhofe. “The measure ensures fairness
and improved communication between the FAA and pilots. With so many
members of the committee supporting this legislation that has the
approval of many aerospace organizations like the Aircraft Owners
and Pilots Association (AOPA) and the Experimental Aircraft
Association (EAA), the bill should receive full consideration. That
is why I have requested this hearing and mark up, and I appreciate
the support of my Senate colleagues.”
Inhofe's letter again outlines the four points in his proposed
Pilot's Bill of Rights. "We hope you will schedule a hearing
and markup of this legislation that is extremely important to the
general aviation community," Inhofe wrote. "As many of us sit on
your committee, we look forward to being an active part of this
process."
