Avidyne Receives Certification Of R.10.2.1 Software Upgrade For IFD Series

STC For R10.2.1 Adds "Helicopter Enablement" Features For Avidyne IFD540 And IFD440

Avidyne Corporation, a leading provider of integrated avionics systems, displays, and safety systems for general aviation aircraft, announced they have received FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for R10.2.1 software for the IFD Series.

Among the new features and product improvements of the R10.2.1 software upgrade is support for helicopter-specific features including Heliports, Helicopter SIDS/ STARS/ Approaches, which is a new paid option designed for helicopter operators.

“R10.2.1 certification comes on the heels of our announcement last week that we received STC approval for our IFDs in Robinson helicopters,” said Avidyne CEO Dan Schwinn. “While R10.2.1 delivers product improvements for IFD customers flying any type of aircraft, we are especially excited to add helicopter enablement features that really focus on the specific needs of helicopter operators.”

Enhancements with R10.2.1 include the following:

  • Helicopter Enablement
  • Adds helicopter 'ownship' on Map and Synthetic Vision displays
  • Adds heliports
  • Adds helicopter SID/STAR/Approaches
  • Added VFR waypoints
  • Allow fuel range ring time to be configurable
  • Added AWIS frequencies to the frequency list
  • Modify MapMx interface to support more than 31 waypoints
  • Improve support for GTX345
  • Improved METAR decoding
  • Improved AIRMET/SIGMENT decoding
  • WiFi and BT icons now reflect the connection status

All IFDs also provide remote COM channel increment and frequency transfer capabilities, which is particularly helpful for the high-workload helicopter environment.
