Jeppesen Partners With Chinese Aviation University

Some 2,000 Chinese Pilots Trained Worldwide Per Year

Jeppesen has entered into an agreement with the Civil Aviation University of China (CAUC) to develop and deliver standardized ab initio pilot training courses that are approved by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

Despite the recent global slump, China continues to experience high demand for qualified airline pilots, with about 2,000 Chinese students per year being trained in ab initio programs outside of China. Officials at the CAUC and CAAC are working with Jeppesen to shift civil aviation pilot training to in-country providers, under a standardized, approved curriculum.

"CAUC attaches great importance to the educational exchange and cooperation with The Boeing Company and its subsidiaries like Jeppesen and Alteon in the field of aviation," said Jing Yi-hong, CAUC vice president. "We sincerely hope that, by this agreement, we shall enhance the cooperation with Jeppesen and lay a solid foundation for a long-term mutually beneficial relationship between the two parties."

"Jeppesen has been working with CAUC for several years and now we are very proud to have finalized this landmark initiative to jointly develop standardized ab initio pilot training curriculum and training centers in China," added Captain Brad Thomann, Jeppesen chief operating officer. "We see this as just the beginning of delivering to China Boeing's lineup of industry leading aviation training solutions that are provided through subsidiary companies Jeppesen and Alteon. Because of our close working relationship with Alteon Boeing is able to provide unique offerings that span the training needs of the aviation industry."

The pilot training courses that Jeppesen will provide to CAUC are based on Jeppesen's standard course materials and syllabi and will be jointly modified as necessary to receive CAAC approval. The theory courses will include flight foundation courses, private pilot, commercial pilot, multi engine, instrument rating, certified flight instructor/certified flight instrument instructor, and frozen airline transport pilot license. Additional courseware provided by Jeppesen will be ICAO Level 4 English training and testing courses.

Jeppesen will also work with CAUC to provide ground instructors, instructor support material, train the trainer courses and help source flight instructors.
