Charity Flies 253 Cancer Patients to Treatment in October
Corporate Angel
Network, the national public charity which provides free air
transportation for cancer patients traveling to treatment by using
the empty seats on corporate and fractional aircraft, arranged a
record-breaking 253 patient flights in October. The previous
monthly record of 244 flights was set in 2004.
“Amanda made it to UCLA without any problems.” said
Susan Ivancevich speaking of her one year old daughter who was one
of the 253 cancer patients Corporate Angel Network transported in
October. Amanda was flown to UCLA Medical Center for treatment of a
rare form of brain cancer.
“She is scheduled for brain surgery next week. Thanks
again for being so wonderful. The name Corporate Angel Network is
appropriate as you have certainly been angels to us.”
Corporate Angel Network arranges
free flights for cancer patients using the empty seats on corporate
aircraft. Since its founding nearly 25 years ago, CAN has grown to
include 530 participating corporations, five paid staff, and a team
of 50 part-time volunteers who work with patients, physicians,
corporate flight departments, and leading treatment centers to
coordinate medical travel needs of cancer patients with the
scheduled flight activity of participating corporations.
To date, CAN has arranged more than 22,000 flights and currently
provides about 200 patient flights per month. CAN has received
numerous awards in recognition of its service to cancer patients,
including The Volunteer Action Award, the highest volunteer award
from the President of the United States.
