Satellite Internet Comes to Beechcrafts with New Approval

AeroMech Incorporated announced its receipt of a Supplemental Type Certificate for the installation of Starlink high speed internet in the Beechcraft King Air 200 and 300 series aircraft. That's great news for internet-hungry King Air operators, since the AeroMech FAA STC ODA covers 17 variants of the aircraft, from the original King Air 200 to the newfangled King Air 360s. AeroMech's subsidiary, AMI Aviation Services, is now conducting Starlink antenna installations for end users out of its facilities back East, or from a handful of remote teams. For those out West, AMI can provide the STC and PMA installation kits to any qualified Starlink installer or dealer.

5G Revolution Still Gestating in Simulator Testing, But Progress is Quick

Gogo Business Aviation spoke on its continued flight simulation testing on upcoming 5G software, affirming plans to roll out 'Gogo 5G' later this year. The firm has been checking out the airborne safety and functionality of its next-gen connectivity suite using a virtual flight simulator designed by their in-house radio frequency engineering team. Using the sim, Gogo is able to emulate inflight radio activity to evaluate the performance and resilience of 5G signals throughout all phases of flight. The tech has enabled the firm to "verify the 5G software to a more than 90 percent confidence level."

Season Begins in April With Stops Across the USA

Fans of the historic Ford Tri-Motor aircraft have a chance to hitch a ride as it tours through a list of 7 states through the end of July. The Tri-Motor will make stops in New Mexico and Texas throughout April, moving on to Oklahoma, Missouri, and Illinois in May. June will see it pass through Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois again,  with its last stop in Oshkosh. Different tour dates will offer fun times for all, with most stops allowing for about three days of flying. Tickets run $99 for adults and $75 for kids 17 and under. Luckily for passengers, every seat on a Tri-Motor is a window seat! Each flight offers about 30 minutes of total time, with 15 minutes in the air.

Tucson Man Arrested on Two Counts of Aiming a Laser Pointer at Aircraft

There's just no figuring the malicious stupidity of some people... especially when they get a hold of a laser... Charles William Preston II, 53, of Tucson, was arrested on March 6, 2024, after a federal grand jury returned a two-count indictment against him on November 1, 2023. Preston is charged with two counts of aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft. The indictment alleges that on two separate occasions, Preston aimed the beam of a laser pointer at a fixed-wing aircraft operated by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and in the flight path of the same aircraft.

On March 2, 2024, about 0942 central standard time, a Globe GC-1B, N2387B, (File Photo shown below) was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Afton, Minnesota. Both occupants were fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 Personal flight. According to a witness that was outside of his house about 600 feet north of the accident site saw the plane in a “quick nosedive” and disappear.
