The Career Fair will be held from April 9th to the 14th from 0900 to 1700 hrs every day. Things just keep getting bigger, too, with more exhibitors and booths than ever. Originally, the Fair only opened its doors for a single day of the show, eventually stretching on and up to become a constant presence after half a century of Sun 'n Fun.
Gary Reeves of Pilotsafety.org has been making the rounds in Texas, setting up back to back training courses with the US Coast Guard and Houston Police Department. Reeves has been flying for 20 years in the fray of GA operations, with more than 8,500 hours of real IFR soup time in his book. As such, he's picked up all the ins and outs of the average GA instrument panel, whether that's a Garmin, Bendix King, Avidyne, or even Foreflight.
TS28 Replaces Emergency Lighting Batts on 6 Models of Cessna Aircraft
Cessna Citation owners of the 550,m 560, 650, 680/A, and 700 series aircraft have a new replacement option to swap out for the old, heavy emergency lighting battery. The new TS28 provides 28 volts of DC power for aircraft loads, allowing pilots to keep all the fixin's going in the event of a generator failure. The TS28 is a direct drop-in replacement for the original Radiant Battery Power Supply (CBS28-1), allowing the use of lighting and critical gear should the worst occur. Unusually, the TS28 sticks with Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) this time around, chosen for its "improved performance, battery life, and energy per cell compared to competing battery chemistries".

Apparently adaptable to nearly any element, the Coast Guard now gets to claim an Astronaut as one of their own. The Coast Guard swore-in NASA Astronaut Andre Douglas as a commander in the Coast Guard Reserve during a commissioning ceremony in Washington, D.C., Tuesday. Senior Official Performing the Duties of Deputy Secretary Kristie Canegallo participated in the ceremony, highlighting the important role Reserve members play in Coast Guard operations. “Commander Douglas, like the fewer than 400 Americans and two Coast Guardsmen before him, will soon join the exclusive group of pioneers and explorers to embark on the journey to space,” said Canegall
STC Allows for Streamlined, Feature-Rich Audio Setup
Trimec Aviation installed a PS Engineering PAC45A Digital Audio System alongside a Universal Avionics InSight flight deck on a Falcon 2000, paving the way for the system in similar aircraft. Trimec already received their STC (ST0472NY) for the install, where the InSight suite replaces the Collins Pro Line 4 systems that shipped with Falcon 2000 and 2000EXs. The PAC45A system was accompanied by a trio of CTL45J control heads and a HUB45AR digital audio processor, allowing a third crew station to act as an observer or check airman position. That's a nifty install, allowing that third seater to independently send and receive with their own comms line.
Those looking to get some high-speed internet aboard their ritzy business aircraft should be happy to note even more installation throughput in the SmartSky family now that Haggan Aviation of Denver, Colorado has joined the distribution network. Haggan, a well known MRO in the area, is now an authorized sales and installation partner with a special eye for LearJet and Hawker aircraft. SmartSky has certifications for, and first-article installations in, such aircraft already. The Air-To-Ground connectivity system continues to find fans throughout the bizjet market, particularly given the low latency and high speeds desired by passengers accustomed to blazing fast, unlimited terrestrial internet.
Maintenance Planned Well in Advance for Equatorial Aerodrome
Ecuador's Mariscal Sucre Quito International Airport has announced a few chunks of downtime for runway maintenance, describing some taxiway work and mainline repairs that will put the airport out of commission for windows in May, June, July, and September. The maintenance work will cover more than 70,000 square meters of runway, helping to prevent emergency corrective work should existing wear and tear worsen in the future.

The Soaring Society of America, Inc. was formed in 1932 to foster and promote all phases of soaring, both nationally and internationally. Since then, the SSA membership has grown to almost 10,000. It is run by a 17 member Board of Directors, 10 of which are elected by the general membership by region to serve a three-year term, and seven who are elected by the Board of Directors each year to serve one-year terms.
