AMA Drone Report 05.23.19: DAC Appointments Questioned, TFR Violated, AlphaPilot

Also: Changes Coming For ANN/Airborne Drone Coverage, FAA Restrictions, DHS Alert, FAA UAS Symposium

SecTrans Elaine Chao has formally announced new appointments to the FAA Drone Advisory Committee (DAC).

The DAC is said to be a broad-based, long-term federal advisory committee that provides the FAA advice on key unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) integration issues by helping to identify challenges and prioritize improvements. The committee helps to create broad support for an overall integration strategy and vision. The list is devoid of working drone pilots or real-world drone service providers... leaving many in the drone community feeling as if their interests are unwelcome and unrepresented. A drone pilot has been charged with violating TFRs over two NFL stadiums in California on November 26, 2017. According to an affidavit attached to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in San Jose, CA, 56-year-old Tracy Michael Mapes of North Highlands in Sacramento County flew his drone over a game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. Then, he drove to Oakland where he flew over the Oakland Raiders-Denver Broncos game at Oakland Alameda County Stadium. Lockheed Martin and the Drone Racing League have announced nine teams that were accepted into the 2019 AlphaPilot Innovation Challenge, an open competition to develop artificial intelligence (AI) for high-speed racing drones. These teams have earned a spot in DRL's inaugural autonomous drone racing series, the Artificial Intelligence Robotic Racing (AIRR) Circuit, which kicks off later this year. The nine AlphaPilot teams are comprised of 69 students, drone technologists, aerospace engineers and coders from across the world. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of the AMA Drone Report!!!
