JetBlue CEO: ATC Reform 'Imperative'

Remarks Come At Boston College's Chief Executive's Club

The CEO of JetBlue told the Boston College Chief Executive's Club Thursday that reform of the FAA air traffic system is "imperative."

David Barger said that while prop planes in the 1950's could travel from New York to Boston in less than a hour, today's official airline guidelines say the flight takes an hour and 35 minutes.

Reuters reports that Barger called that situation "...crazy ... and we just accept it."

Barger also said that Hurricane Irene would cost his company seven to eight million dollars in profit in the third quarter. The company recently deferred purchase of eight A320 single-aisle airliners until 2017, and converted several others to A321s.
