Paris Airports' Fuel Supply Pipeline Cut

Damage Done As A Protest Against Pension Reforms

Fuel could soon quickly become scarce at the two main airports in Paris after a supply pipeline was cut in a protest over government pension reforms.

The international news service AFP reports that Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport could run out of fuel next week, according to Trapil, the airport's management company. Orly reportedly has 17 days supply on hand, but Roissy could be out of gas by the end of the weekend. Fuel for cars could also be affected.

Members of the CGT trade union at the Grandpuits refinery are on strike, and are protesting a move by French President Nicolas Sarkozy to raise the retirement age from 60 to 62. Most of France's refineries have reportedly been shut down due to the labor action.

The French government has authorized companies to tap into their emergency reserves, but has so far not taken the step of opening up strategic government stockpiles to ease the shortage.
