St. Louis FBO Closed By Court Order

Company Describes Hangar Conditions As 'Deplorable', Airport Claims It Is Owed Six Figures

An FBO which had complained about the conditions at a hangar it rented from St. Louis Regional Airport (KALN) in Alton, IL has been ordered to cease operations by an Illinois judge. The airport is just north of St. Louis. MO.

The FBO, Aaero Aviation Services, brought the suit in Madison County, IL, Circuit Court in March, claiming that the hangar it rented from the St. Louis Regional Airport Authority had an unsealed door, a leading roof, was poorly insulated, and had other issues. But before the suit was filed, an attorney for the airport authority said the body was planning to sue AAS for back rent, which it claims in in the neighborhood of $100,000. It filed a counter claim shortly after the original lawsuit was filed, citing the lack of a business license and other permits required by the Airport Authority to operate.

The Edwardsville, IL, Telegraph reports that Associate Judge Tom Chapman ordered the business to cease operations, and Airport Manager David Miller said the airport authority had reclaimed possession of the two hangars used by AAS. He said the authority would continue to seek its back rent and unpaid fees. The telephone number for the FBO has been disconnected, though it was allowed to continue to use a small 'T' hangar on the airport grounds.
