Wings Built As Part Of The Give Flight Project At EAA AirVenture Have Been Shipped To EAA Chapter 27 In CT
Last week, the final pair of the five sets of wings built by EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2015 volunteers and attendees were shipped to a waiting EAA chapter, which will build the remainder of the airplane in its own community.
The set of RV-12 wings, containing the signatures of each person who pulled a rivet on the project, will be sent to EAA Chapter 27 in Meriden, CT. The EAA staff gathered around the wings during its post-AirVenture picnic lunch to give them a fitting sendoff to the chapter. The RV 12, when completed, qualifies as a light sport aircraft and will be eligible to be flown by a sport pilot.
“The Give Flight project provides a platform to talk up two of EAA’s core offerings: homebuilding and chapters,” Charlie Becker, EAA director of chapters, communities, and homebuilt community manager, said during AirVenture. “By encouraging attendees to come by and pull a rivet on a wing that will eventually be a completed aircraft, we are hoping to open some eyes to the idea of building an aircraft. Since the wings are being given to five chapters it will also be a great opportunity to talk about joining your local chapter.”
The arrival of the wings at individual EAA chapters begins a two-year countdown to complete the aircraft and bring it back to Oshkosh for EAA AirVenture 2017. Each chapter that receives the wings will be responsible for raising the funds necessary to complete the aircraft.
