Gear-Up Landing Leaves NM Governor, Husband Uninjured

Couple Was Returning From A Campaign Event When The Accident Occurred

New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez (R) (pictured) and her husband Chuck Franco were reportedly uninjured when the single-engine plane they were in made a gear-up landing in Santa Fe, NM Wednesday evening. Ninth Judicial District Attorney Matt Chandler was also aboard the plane.

A spokesman for the Governor said that the plane was being flown by a local businessman, according to a report in the Associated Press. Scott Darnell said that the pilot executed a missed approach due to high winds at the airport. There are conflicting reports as to whether the gear failed to deploy on the second landing attempt, or whether the pilot, identified as Sid Strebeck by television station KRQE, forgot that item on the pre-landing checklist.

Strebeck said the Governor didn't give him any "grief" about the gear-up landing.
