Boeing To Ramp Up 767 Production

Cites Strong Economy And Growth Of Online Shopping

With the economy continuing to strengthen and more people shopping online, Boeing says it will increase production of its 767 airliners from 2.5 to 3 airplanes per month beginning in 2020.

CNBC reports that the announcement was made during an earnings conference call with Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg, who cited stronger global trade and e-commerce.

The IATA says that in 2017, international freight grew at its fastest pace since 2010.

Boeing currently has 99 firm orders for the 767. Of those, 61 are freighters and 31 are KC-46 tankers, according to Boeing.

Among the 767 customers are UPS, which has four new freighters on order and is converting three passenger aircraft to freight configuration. Amazon is leasing 40 Boeing 767s for its Amazon Air unit.

Muilenburg also said that there has been an increase in demand for the 777 freighter. Both Qatar Airways and ANA have the larger freighters on order or under Letters of Intent.
