Commercial Jet Joins Miami Dade College To Launch Apprenticeship Program

Collaborating With The U.S. Department Of Labor, Florida Department Of Education

Sponsored by Miami Dade College (MDC) in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Labor and Florida Department of Education, Commercial Jet has been named as the industry launch partner of the MDC Works: Apprenticeship Program.

The signing ceremony witnessed by several elected officials, local leaders, MDC faculty members and the media took place at MDC’s Wolfson Campus in the heart of downtown Miami, FL presided over by MDC President, Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón.

MDC becomes the first higher education institution to offer such a program in the State of Florida. In his tweet, Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón wrote, “I am proud to announce the launch of MDC Works: Apprenticeship Program, the first model program of its kind in South Florida. With this endeavor, we hope to deliver wonderful training opportunities and close the skills gap as we prepare the next generation of workplace leaders.”

In his presentation, President of Commercial Jet, Mr. David Sandri said, “Thanks to the efforts of the US Department of Labor, Florida Department of Education and Miami Dade College we now look forward to the commencement of Commercial Jet’s Aircraft Structural Assembly and Fabrication Apprenticeship Program which will provide a combination of courses and on-the-job training to prepare people to fill these high-skilled aviation jobs.”

The work preparing this 23-month Apprenticeship Program was initiated early this year and will continue for Fall 2018 start date to be announced in the next few weeks.

“Working together with our local communities, this initiative is an important beginning to mitigating the skills shortage and to preparing the next generation of aviation technicians, key to meeting our industry’s growth and prosperity,” added Sandri.
