Premium Model of the Mavic Series Proves Itself at the Top of the World
DJI pushed its new Mavic 3 drone to the limits for some impressive footage in conjunction with Chinese photography platform 8KRAW.
The expedition saw a bone-stock Mavic 3 come along for the ride before taking flight to record the mountain from a point of view rarely seen. 8KRAW lended their expertise real-world photography, working with DJI to develop a flight plan that would sufficiently account for a range of performance detriments experienced in the frigid, thin air over the mountain. With rapidly depleting batteries and wheezing props, the little Mavic wound its way up to 9,232 meters to capture a top-down, sunny summer view over the summit with its built-in Hasselblad camera.
The stunt is a definite feather in the cap for the little drone, granting the Mavic 3 - DJI’s premium photography offering - some cachet as a serious performer. The end result is the short film, “Flying Over Everest”, jointly produced by the two companies after months of editing and composition. The short features numerous aerial shots that show off the full capabilities of the in-built, professional grade camera from the summit, providing plenty of sweeping visuals with no shortage of detail.
Wang Yuanzong, the chief director of the film and founder of 8KRAW, said: “8KRAW continues to pursue the ultimate image. As early as three years ago, we began to try aerial photography of Mount Everest. It was the team’s long-cherished wish to fly a drone at the top and complete the leap shooting. The light and reliable Mavic 3 with the ultimate image and the warm weather conditions on the summit day finally came true, and I am very grateful to Mount Everest for accepting us and allowing us to see it from a new perspective.”
