Zooooommmm! Sport Air Racing League Completes Seventh Race For '09

Feel The Need... The Need For Speed?

The Seventh Air Race in the National Championship Series of the Sport Air Racing League has just concluded. Twenty-three racers from as far away as Ontario and Louisiana, met to race around a 2-turn, 100-mile course at speeds approaching 300 miles per hour. Both Production and Experimental aircraft vied for Championship points in class.

The overall winner in the Experimental class was Duncan Sutherland of Alto, New Mexico. Duncan flew his Swearingen SX300 around the course at a speed of 285.7 Miles Per Hour. Overall winner in the Production class was Jack Peck of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Jack flew a Mooney M20M to a course speed of 221.9 Mile Per Hour. The Sport Air Racing League - SARL - exists to promote cross-country air racing for production and experimental aircraft.

The remaining races in the National Championship Series are:

  • The Grace Flight Air Race in Sherman, Texas on October 3, 2009
  • The Tennessee Valley Pumpkin Dash and Air Race in Courtland, Alabama on October 17, 2009
  • The Rocket 100 Air Race in Taylor, Texas on November 21, 2009.
