DJI Releases Next-Gen Enterprise Drone System

DJI has expanded its portfolio, stretching itself further into the business range of UAS aircraft with the new Matrice 30 Enterprise Drone

The new system contains a range of novel equipment for DJI, like a more refined and controllable FlightHub 2 Control System for remote planning, flying, and data management for not just one drone, but a fleet of them.

The DJI Dock acknowledges the level of operational independence that so many operators are hungry for, offering an automated, remotely manageable way to launch, retrieve, store, and recharge drones without any human intervention for lengthy periods of time. Finally, the Matrice 30 boasts the newest iteration of the Zenmuse H20N sensors, giving starlight vision and greatly improved light sensitivity. When taken as a whole, the package shows a solid, well-thought-out approach to the enterprise drone market. The arena is getting crowded, set upon from the affordable, lower end by higher-performance consumer drones that blur the lines for businesses requiring little more than basic camera layouts and imaging performance. In the mid-range, DJI competes with a few companies assembling home grown, highly customized, modular drone solutions for users looking for highly specialized equipment loadouts.

What the Matrice 30 does have, however, is a brand name often recognized as the drone company. DJI's Matrice is backed with a powerful accessory ecosystem, after sales support, a high level of fit, finish, and a well-designed, polished user interface. The total package appears to be a bit more than its parts, as if the main goal of the system is to minimize work disruptions caused by drone setup, maintenance, and management so workers can focus on what's really important. The Matrice 30 comes in 2 flavors, the M30 and M30T, both integrating a 48 megapixel 1/2" CMOS, 5x-16x  optical zoom camera, a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera, an 8k photo, 4k/30fps video camera, and a laser rangefinder to gauge exact distances up to 1,200 meters. The M30T takes the package and adds an additional 640x512 radiometric thermal camera.

The folding, weather-resistant, 8-lb Matrice 30 fits into a backpack, carries a self-heating battery system good for 41 minutes of endurance, with an additional charging case capable of quick charging. Should another flight be needed in a hurry, the BS30 case allows the M30 to recharge from 20% to 90% in about 30 minutes. The M30's inclusion of the DJI RC Plus remote brings a 7" HD screen, IP54 certified, water-resistant form factor, and additional controls not found on the garden variety DJI lineup. Using the keys, basic functions like wide angle switching, zoom, infrared activation, and FPV views are less than a second away without giving up control of the sticks. The RC Plus boasts additional USB, HDMI, Type C, and 4G connectivity as well as improved long-range transmission capability,

“DJI Enterprise is devoted to researching and developing new drone solutions explicitly designed to revolutionize work, helping everyday heroes in their missions, saving lives, maintaining physical infrastructure, and preserving the natural environment. With the outstanding performance, transportability and ease of use of the DJI Matrice 30 drone and its perfect integration with the DJI FlightHub 2 Fleet Management Cloud Software and DJI Dock, DJI is stepping into the future for our Enterprise customers who will be able to enter the autonomous solutions space, creating possibilities to fly beyond visual line of sight with the appropriate regulatory permissions in place,” said Christina Zhang, director of strategy at DJI. “We are proud to deliver the next generation of aerial tools that will save lives and bring work to new heights, with a 360-degree product solution suite for a variety of fields such as energy inspection, emergency rescue missions, environmental protection, and the digitization and preservation of cultural heritage."
