Kentucky Airport Repairs Near Completion

Heavy Snows In 2015 Severely Damaged Several Buildings

Repairs to the terminal building at Tucker-Guthrie Memorial Airport in Harlan County, KY (I35), which was damaged by heavy snowfall in 2015, are nearly complete, and the county got a new hangar and extended runway out of the deal as well.

Television station WYMT reports that, according to Harlan County Airport Board Chairman Mark Miracle, the new terminal will include a pilot lounge, flight planning room, and a new weather system.

The new weather system will provide information to media outlets including television throughout the county. The terminal lobby will include a big-screent TV, fireplace, restrooms, showers and a kitchen.

Also new at the airport is a self-serve fuelling system giving pilots the option of buying fuel for their airplanes, which has not been available in the past. "Everything is brand new, so it should last a long time," Miracle said.

Construction is expected to be completed in the next three weeks, but officials say that the grand opening won't be organized until the weather warms up.
