US Airways Employee Killed At KPHX

Baggage Conveyor Trapped Maintenance Worker

A US Airways maintenance worker has been killed in the mechanism of a baggage handling system, according to authorities atSky Harbor Airport in Phoenix. Sixty-year-old Robert Demarco was said to have been with the airline for several years beforeFriday's incident.

KSAZ-TV in cites Phoenix Police in reporting Demarco was working on the system, and became lodged between the upper andlower conveyor belts of the sorting system and was later pronounced dead. There are no indications of foul play.

Officer James Holmes told the station, "This appears to be a tragic accident and Phoenix Police detectives will be working hard todetermine exactly how and why this incident occurred."

US Airways says it is providing assistance to the victim's family, friends, and coworkers.
