Plane Down At Hillsboro (OR) Air Show

Pilot Did Not Eject Before Plane Impacted Homes

ANN REALTIME REPORTING 07.16.06 2115 EDT: A vintage fighter plane, believed to be a Hawker Hunter participating in the Hillsboro Air Show near Portland, OR, went down late Sunday afternoon, crashing into three homes and sparking a large fire that forced emergency officials to evacuate a 10-block radius around the crash site.

Sources say the plane (file photo of type, below right) appeared to lose power, before impacting homes approximately one-and-one-half miles from the airport about 20 seconds later.

Initial reports from officials at the scene indicated the homes were unoccupied at the time of the crash.

"It was doing a loop and couldn't pull out in time," witness Kory Hauser told the Salem Statesman Journal. "It clipped about three houses and went down."

The same sources report the pilot did not eject from the plane. The identity and condition of the pilot are not yet known.

ANN will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
