Airborne-UnManned 03.02.17: Record Setting BLOS, Matrice 200, FAA UAS Symposium

Also: BMW/Mobileye and HERE, QF-16 Takes Flight, AUVSI XPONENTIAL 2017 To Unveil ‘Innovation Preview’

A Drone America Savant UAS flew more than 39 miles, and was piloted by a team from Drone America. The UAS flew BLOS for one hour.

The vehicle reached an altitude of 1500’ AGL, delivering a package of emergency supplies, to Nevada’s Hawthorne Industrial Airport. Drone America’s CEO/Founder Mike Richards, noted, “Remote critical package delivery can include such items as medical equipment (AED) and supplies such as vaccines, EpiPens, anti-venom, even a Search and Rescue survival package. These achievements bring us closer to becoming a self-sustaining, Nevada-based, and American-made corporation that gives back.” After several days of breathless rumors, DJI has unveiled the new Matrice 200 and 210 drone series, purpose-built for professional users to perform aerial inspections and collect data. The M200 series’ folding body is easy to carry and easy to set up, with a weather- and water-resistant body, ideal for field operations. It offers DJI’s first upward-facing gimbal mount, opening up the undersides of bridges, towers and other structures to inspection. It is compatible with DJI’s powerful X4S and X5S cameras, as well as the high-powered Z30 zoom camera and the XT camera for thermal imaging. On March 27–29, 2017 the Federal Aviation Administration and the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) are partnering to host the FAA UAS Symposium. This Symposium will provide stakeholders with the opportunity to talk face-to-face with a cross-section of government and industry representatives about regulations, research, and other initiatives to integrate UAS into the National Airspace System (NAS).
