Asiana Flight 214 Passengers File Suit Against Boeing

Cite Possible Problems With Auto-Throttle, Emergency Slides

This development was probably inevitable. A group of 83 passengers who were aboard Asiana Flight 214 which crash-landed at San Francisco International Airport July 6th have filed a lawsuit against Boeing for what they say are defects in the manufacture of the 777.

The suit was filed by the Chicago-based law firm Ribbeck Law. The firm cites information released by the NTSB that indicates the pilots' said they had properly set the auto-throttle for the approach. The firm goes on to say that the planemaker could be at fault for the design of the emergency slides, two of which deployed inside the airplane blocking exits, according to a report from the French news service AFP published in the U.K. newspaper The Times which cites a news release from the firm.

The firm filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of the passengers. The firm has also filed a motion to require Boeing to release details about the 777s manufacturing process, and seeks access to any evidence that is uncovered as the investigation continues.
