Hot Air Balloon Hits Power Pylon In Germany

All Six On Board The Aircraft Rescued

A hot air balloon became entangled in an electricity pylon carrying high-voltage wires in Germany on Sunday, but thankfully, all six people on board the aircraft were rescued.

The BBC reports that the incident occurred about 5:30 p.m. local time in the city of Bottrop, Germany. First responders said that because it was the balloon, and not the basket which contacted the power lines, all on board were able to be safely rescued.

According to a news release, the power lines were de-energized, and rescuers were able to climb the pylon to get to the basket. Each person was secured in a harness and rappelled down from the 200-foot-tall tower.

The passengers were all transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Two suffered a "slight shock", according to the news release.

The incident will be investigated by Germany's Federal Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau.
