Adventures In Screening I: TSA Finds Guns, Drugs In Man's Luggage

Comair Employee Has Some Explaining To Do

A Florida man was arrested Monday for allegedly bringing guns and drugs aboard a Delta Airlines flight.

Thomas Anthony Munoz, 22, was arrested when he was found to have 13 handguns, an assault rifle and eight clear bags of marijuana, according to Miami-based US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Special Agent Carlos Baixauli.

Munoz reportedly boarded a Delta flight at the Orlando International Airport bound for Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, according to Delta spokeswoman Chris Kelly.

Munoz was arrested on US weapons charges after deplaning in San Juan and turned over to federal authorities, according to Puerto Rico Police Superintendent Pedro Toledo.

"We have information to the effect that this individual had apparently done this before," he said.

Miami-based FBI spokesman Kevin Farrington told the Associated Press an anonymous tip led Orlando Police to the flight. More arrests are possible, he said.

"I can tell you there were weapons and drugs but we're not getting into specifics now," he said. "We're still following up. It's an ongoing matter."

TSA spokesman Chris White said passengers were never in any danger.

"While we cannot discuss details of an ongoing criminal matter, no weapons were brought through the passenger security checkpoint and at no time were passengers in any danger," he said.

Munoz is a three-year employee of Delta regional-subsidiary Comair, according to Delta spokeswoman Kate Marx. He was employed as a customer service agent and was not on duty at the time of the incident. He has been suspended pending an investigation.
