FAA Touts Small Businesses Contracting Opportunities

Billions Of Dollars To Be Spent On NextGen Implementation, Other Projects

The FAA says there are billions of dollars to be spent on aviation projects, including the implementation of the NextGen navigation system, and that much of that money could be available to small businesses.

The New Jersey business publication NUBIZ reports that FAA chief acquisitions officer James H. Washington said small business could play a big role in NextGen and other FAA projects. “Billions of dollars in contracts will be awarded in the next 12 months to two years,” he said. “Some of them are set aside for small businesses, while others are teaming opportunities, and a combination of IT and service contracting opportunities.” The remarks came at a three-day trade show on “Small Business Procurement Opportunities” sponsored by FAA and DOT held this year in New Jersey. The agencies rotate the conference to cities around the country.

NextGen will represent the largest of the FAA contracts, according to Washington. It will include electronic, engineering and research components, and is expected to be awarded next year.

NUBIZ reports more than 700 people attended the event, which featured 95 companies representing all aspects of the aviation business.
