Kentucky Governor Makes Tandem Skydive

Jumped With The U.S. Army Golden Knights

The top elected official in the state of Kentucky took a big drop Wednesday ... but not in the polls. He participated in a tandem skydive with the U.S. Army Golden Knights.

Governor Matt Bevin was one of 13 people to participate in the jump Wednesday, which started at about 13,000 feet. Kentucky First Lady Glenna Bevin and the couple's three children looked on from the ground as the skydive happened.

Kentucky Today reports that Bevin had served four years of active duty in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of Captain, so it wasn't his first time to jump from an airplane.

Bevin said his reasons for participating in the jump were twofold. One was to help encourage military participation, and the other was to honor Kentucky's coal miners. He put on a "Friends of Coal" hat before boarding the plane.

Apparently Kentucky's elected officials enjoy jumping out of airplanes. A day earlier, Lt. Governor Jenean Hampton and her husband jumped with the Golden Knights at Fort Knox in honor of their wedding anniversary.
