Classic Aero-TV: Retrofits ‘R Us – The Elliott Aviation G1000/King Air Program

Taking A Classic Airframe To The Next Level...

ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, was at the NBAA 2012 convention and stopped to talk with Mark Wilken, the director of avionics sales for Elliott Aviation. Jim’s first question was about the ongoing Garmin G1000 retrofit program being performed by Elliott Aviation.

Wilken’s response was that they are performing many of the retrofit programs on what amounts to a production line basis. The Elliott Aviation guarantee is to complete the job in 15 days; this seems almost undoable because of the amount of work involved. Wilken told Jim that they guarantee the process in 15 days or pay a penalty of $1,000 per day if they don’t meet the schedule…no penalties have been paid.

While Wilken talks about the product and explains the installation process, the video provides us with a fascinating time-lapse view of an actual installation in progress. To say that it looks like a wire jungle with a life of its own is an understatement.

Wilken said the customers are very satisfied with the end results and with what they get for the cost involved. As you watch the video, you’ll see how a good airplane can be made so much better with the G1000 retrofit. Even if you’re not planning to retrofit a King Air, this video is interesting to watch because it shows an installation process we seldom get to see.
