B-29 Doc Hangar, Education And Visitors Center To Reopen June 2

Phased Plan In Place To Resume Full B-29 Doc Operations

After more than two months of being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the B-29 Doc Hangar, Education and Visitors Center will reopen to the public June 2. Doc’s Friends, Inc., closed the facility that B-29 Doc calls home in Wichita in March to take precautions to protect the health and safety of its volunteers and flight crew teams during the public health concern with COVID-19 (coronavirus). The process of reopening the hangar to the public is the first step in a phased approach to return to full operations for B-29 Doc.

CAF Mississippi Wing Adds PT-19 WWII Trainer

Contest To Name Aircraft Underway

The Mississippi Wing of the Commemorative Air Force acquired a PT-19 (primary trainer). This aircraft was built in 1943, during the World War II. Although the aircraft was brought to the wing from Nacogdoches, Texas, during the war the aircraft was stationed in Meridian, Mississippi. CAF Pilot Karl Holocomb had the honor to fly it home to Mississippi this month. Holocomb said "It flies good! It’s docile, but being a trainer for the military, you want to learn aerobatics. They wanted to learn all those things you need to survive being a fighter pilot or a bomber pilot. Being a primary trainer, they wanted something fairly easy, but not too easy to maneuver.”
