UK Pilot Union Sends Out A ‘Mayday’

'Tsunami Of Job Cuts' Creating Growing Concern

The British Airline Pilots Association has issued a ‘Mayday’ distress call for the aviation industry as Ryanair becomes the latest airline to announce potential job cuts and predictions of more to come. The announcement that 3000 jobs are on the line at Ryanair comes just days after British Airways announced it is also planning 12,000 redundancies. The pilots’ union says enforced travel restrictions as a result of coronavirus are having a devastating impact on aviation and it is an emergency the Government can no longer ignore. Before COVID-19 hit the UK aviation brought at least £22 billion to the UK economy, along with over 230,000 jobs.

NASA Commits to Future Artemis Missions with More SLS Rocket Engines

Eighteen Engines Are Valued At $1.79 Billion

NASA has awarded a contract to Aerojet Rocketdyne of Sacramento, California, to manufacture 18 additional Space Launch System (SLS) RS-25 rocket engines to support Artemis missions to the Moon. The four RS-25 engines, shown here, are attached to the SLS core stage that will send the Artemis I mission to the Moon. Currently, the stage is undergoing a series of Green Run tests in a test stand at Stennis Space Center near Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. The additional engines will support future SLS flights to deep space.

Skydio Equips First Responders With Drones

Skydio Emergency Response Program (ERP) Will Donate Dozens of Drones

Skydio has launched initiatives to provide first responders with drones and personal protection equipment (PPE). Through the primary initiative, known as the Skydio Emergency Response Program (ERP), Skydio will donate dozens of its Skydio 2 drones and associated equipment to public safety agencies across the country. Participating agencies will also have access to Skydio's in-house experts for training and support at no cost. Skydio says that it had planned to release the ERP to help with disaster relief later this year, but the company decided to make the program available immediately to meet the needs of public safety agencies dealing with the Coronavirus pandemic.

Coast Guard, Panamanian Authorities Stop Drug Smuggling Operation Near Panama

CG Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron MH-65 Dolphin Crew Utilized

The Coast Guard stopped a drug smuggling operation, recently, in international waters northeast of Panama. A Coast Guard Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, forward deployed with the Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba (WMEC-907), spotted a suspect fishing vessel with five people aboard. The cutter Escanaba crew sent a small boat crew to the scene. The cutter Escanaba small boat crew recovered 40 bales of cocaine, and a nearby Panamanian law enforcement boat crew recovered 43 bales, taking a total approximately $60 million wholesale that would have otherwise funded transnational criminal organizations.

NTSB Prelim: Robinson R44 Forced Landing

Pilot Heard A Loud "Bang" -- Followed By The Low Rotor RPM

On April 6, 2020, about 1410 Pacific daylight time, a Robinson R44 Raven II helicopter, N725GT, was substantially damaged following a forced landing at Portland-Hillsboro Airport (HIO), Portland, Oregon. The pilot was not injured. The helicopter was registered to and operated by the Horizons Unlimited Air Inc. as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan was filed for the local flight destined for Warren, Oregon.
