Pilots At Work! Bahamas Habitat Flies First Hurricane Irene Relief Missions

Organizations' Pilots 'Delivering Aid and Assessing Damage' 

The folks of Bahamas Habitat tell ANN that its first response pilots are now delivering aid to numerous points in the Bahamas affected by Hurricane Irene. The organization moved quickly and had its first planes arriving on Friday August 26th shortly after the storm passed to the north. The group has set up a main depot and coordination post at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE). Volunteers and pilots have come in from numerous points in the US and Bahamas. Planes were dispatched to deliver supplies and assess the damage and needs so the organization can direct the next wave of volunteer pilots according to the conditions they find on the ground in the various "Out Islands".

Appellate Court Squashes New Runway In Hillsboro, OR

Says FAA Did Not Conisder Increased Traffic When Runway Was Approved

A Seattle-based federal court of appeals has struck down plans for a third runway at Hillsboro, OR, west of Portland (KHIO). While the proponants of a new runway said it would be a boon for aviation-related businesses at the airport, Judge Betty Fletcher, writing for the majority, said the FAA and other agencies "do not explain why this is so and do not refer to anything in the record backing their contention."
