Bell Boeing Submits V-22 Osprey Multiyear II Contract Proposal

Proposal Would Extend Aircraft's Production At Least Through 2019

The Bell Boeing V-22 Program has submitted its proposal to the U.S. Navy for a second multiyear procurement (MYP II) contract for the production and delivery of V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft. The five-year, fixed-price incentive proposal presented Thursday would provide the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) with the full complement of Ospreys outlined in the Department of Defense program of record and yield double-digit percentage savings over a single-year procurement strategy.

NASA is once again taking human space exploration to the Arizona desert in tests to simulate conditions on other worlds. This year, for the first time, the desolate desert landscape will stand in for an asteroid. Visiting an asteroid presents NASA with challenges the agency is only beginning to tackle. Among them are how to travel between sites of interest on an asteroid's surface and how to conduct spacewalks in its microgravity.

ULA Atlas V Selected To Launch Boeing's CST-100 Spacecraft

Manned Missions, When They Happen, Will Launch From Complex 41

When the United States again undertakes manned spaceflight, the CST-100 spacecraft designed by Boeing will launch atop a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket, according to the company. If NASA selects Boeing for a development contract with sufficient funding, ULA will provide launch services for an autonomous orbital flight, a transonic autonomous abort test launch, and a crewed launch, all in 2015.

The 12th HC-144A Ocean Sentry maritime patrol aircraft has been delivered to Coast Guard Aviation Logistics Center Elizabeth City, NC, according to prime contractor EADS North America. The aircraft arrived August 3, and will next pass to the Coast Guard’s Aviation Training Center in Mobile, AL, to begin operational patrols.

Modification Of Russian Helicopters for Iraq Completed

Twenty-Two Aircraft Delivered For Use By Iraqi Armed Forces

Modifications on 22 Russian Mi-17 Helicopters for use by the Air Force of Iraq have been completed under a 2007 U.S. Army contract, according to contractor ARINC Engineering services. The final two aircraft were handed over to Iraqi representatives in Taji, Iraq on June 15, six weeks ahead of schedule. Last year, ARINC Engineering Services completed a similar upgrade of 10 Mi-17 Helicopters for the Air Force of Afghanistan. Most of the modification work on both programs was performed in UAE.
