A Sport Aviation Powerhouse Takes The LSA Plunge
While at Sun ‘n Fun 2014, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell took the opportunity to talk with Scott Taylor, the Vice President of Glasair Aviation. Their conversation was about the new Glasair Merlin LSA. Taylor reminds us that Glasair Aviation has been around for about 30 years producing their unique combination composite and aluminum aircraft. He said a common question is whether or not their airplane is sport pilot eligible. The answer has been no until the Glasair Merlin.
Taylor said when it comes to performance for an LSA, the regulations tell you what you have to do. So their approach was to offer an LSA to the standards of Glasair with all the features their customers liked on their non-LSA line of aircraft. This means an ergonomic interior, Dynon instrument panel, and numerous other high-end amenities. They chose to power the Merlin with the fuel injected Rotax 912iS engine.
Taylor explains Glasair’s philosophy behind the airplane and talks about why they entered into the light sport market.
