NBAA Welcomes New Acting FAA Administrator Elwell

Bolen Anticipates Ongoing Good Relationship With The Agency

NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen has released a statement regarding Dan Elwell, who became acting administrator of the FAA on January 7.

"NBAA has always had a good relationship with the FAA’s leadership, and we will continue that relationship with the new acting administrator,” Bolen said. “We have known and worked closely with the acting administrator in a variety of roles over many years. We look forward to working with him in his new capacity, to ensure the U.S. continues to be the world leader in all aspects of aviation."

Elwell (pictured) succeeds FAA Administrator Michael Huerta, who stepped down Jan. 6 at the end of his five-year term.

In June 2017, Elwell was sworn in as FAA deputy administrator. Before that, he served as vice president of the Aerospace Industries Association; FAA assistant administrator for policy, planning and environment; and senior vice president for safety, security and operations at Airlines for America.

In addition, Elwell was a pilot for 16 years with American Airlines, where he also served as managing director for international and government affairs. A U.S. Air Force Academy graduate, he was a former Air Force lieutenant colonel who saw combat during Operation Desert Storm.
