More Mooneys = More Work

Mooney Factory Adds Second Shift

In response to high demand for its new Ovation2 GX and Bravo GX airplanes, Mooney Airplane Company has added a second shift in selected areas at its manufacturing facility in Kerrville, Texas. The additional shift increases the throughput in the detail-parts fabrication and manufacturing assembly areas, including fuselage, wing, final assembly and paint.

“The addition of another shift helps maximize the utilization of our current equipment and tooling,” said John Cullen, director of assembly for Mooney Airplane Company. “We’re also reviewing the possibility of acquiring reviewing new machinery, tooling and measuring equipment as part of our continuous improvement process.”

Overall, Mooney has experienced an increase in employees since this time last year. With the newly implemented shifts, Cullen and his teams are targeting a significant reduction in the production cycle while still maintaining the highest levels of quality.

“We take time to do it right,” said Cullen. “We build each of our highly handcrafted, high-performance airplanes as though we were going to own and fly them ourselves for years and years to come.”

Mooney Airplane Company currently sells five models of the M20, the highest-performing, four-place, single-engine piston-powered aircraft, now available with the Garmin G1000 glass panel display. Since its inception in 1946, the company has manufactured and delivered more than 10,000 aircraft worldwide. Today, 7,000 customers in the United States and 1,000 more overseas fly Mooneys.
