Latest Rendition of Sebring's LSA-Specific Show Has Been Canceled
The long-running Sebring Aviation Expo will not happen this next year and has been officially canceled. The brainchild of the late Bob Woods, who worked tirelessly to position the event for pilots looking to enjoy aviation as cost-effectively as possible, and centering around the Light Sport Aircraft program, Sebring has been an annual event since 2003.
Officials representing the event confirmed rumors that have been circulating for several days with limited detail, saying only that the event scheduled for January 22-25, 2020 had been canceled and the airport has planned a number of smaller events to replace it... at a later date. Questions about the possibility of it coming back at a later date were not answered.
It's been an occasionally tough gig for Sebring over the years.... with major weather issues, some organizational and staffing problems, as well as the normal industry politics to contend with -- but even with that to consider, the shutdown comes as a surprise.
This announcement leaves an interesting scenario in its wake.
Former Sebring Expo Chief, Jana Filip, left that event several years ago to establish her own sport aviation-centric event in Deland, Florida, scheduled this year for November 14-16, 2019 in Deland, FL. The Deland event has shown steady growth and improvement over the few years of its existence and now seems poised to become an even more prominent event in the wake of the Sebring revelation. We have been assured that this year's Deland Sport Aviation Showcase event is alive and well and fully committed to the future.
We'll have more info and some industry reaction, shortly...
