Getting to a number of aviation events can be tough...
especially in the midst of the winter season when Mother Nature may
have other ideas than to present one with the warm VFR we all
desire... and especially if you're starting in Idaho.
Mind you, Idaho is a lovely state... in the summer... but in
early January, you have to be prepared for anything... especially
when you have a 2100 mile trip ahead of you.
But... that did NOT stop a Factory-Built KITFOX S-LSA from being
flown 2100 Miles To US Sport Aviation Expo in (occasionally) sunny
Sebring, FL. Yes, Stick and Rudder Aviation owner Paul Leadabrand
made the 2100 mile flight from Boise, ID to Sebring, FL in a 100%
factory-built Kitfox LSA.
One might think it's to escape what has been a fairly brutal
Idaho winter, but Leadabrand says the purpose of the flight is to
show off the Kitfox's capabilities, reliability, and economy. And,
boy, did he... here in the states... as well as on a quick side
trip to the islands.
Leadabrand made the trip alone, flying only VFR using just a
Dynon SkyView and his iPad. The tailwheel-configured Kitfox was
displayed in Kitfox Aircraft's vendor booth at the US Sport
Aviation Expo, where Stick & Rudder Aviation got to brag about
being the only Kitfox flight training program in the world.
It wasn't all work, though, Leadabrand managed a short ocean
crossing before the show to find the folks in the Bahamas VERY
welcoming of the pretty little Yellow and White LSA. Hopping the
islands is not something one normally associates with Kitfox... but
based on the evidence we've seen, it should be... Leadabrand
reports the sidetrip was quite a success.
