Seven Lost In Cessna Twin Accident

Severe WX Reported In Area

There appears to be no survivors in the downing of a Cessna 401 twin Monday afternoon near Jackson, KY with seven people onboard.

The Associated Press reports the aircraft left Kickapoo Downtown Airport in Wichita Falls, TX earlier in the day. FAA spokesperson Kathleen Bergen said she did not know the aircraft's destination, as the pilot did not file a flight plan.

Tom Johnstone, a meteorogist with the National Weather Service, said the area saw heavy rain and thunder for several hours Monday afternoon, with low-visibility conditions as well as light fog and mist.

Kickapoo Airport mananger Monica Morris said she was in contact with Kentucky State Police, and was awaiting word on the identities of the victims from those at the scene.

"I just tried to pull up a flight plan and could not find one, which is unusual," she added.

In its preliminary report, the FAA states controllers lost contact of the aircraft as it switched frequencies while under VFR flight following, but that the actual circumstances of the accident are still unknown.
